My first gig!

Okay, so I have my first photo gig ever! It's coming up this Sunday. It's a wedding, and I am all of a sudden nervous that I can't do this. What in the world makes me think that I can take pictures for people of their wedding?!?

Well, I can't back out now. So here's hoping I know what I'm doing....or at least will learn quickly!

Wish me luck...I think I might need it.

You don't need luck, you've got skill and that's even better! ;) Just try to stay calm and keep your eyes open for unusual shots. I know you'll do great. My advice?: Overshoot everything... you can always pitch it later. How big's your memory card? I would just shoot literally everything you come in contact with, then when you think you're done, take a few more.

Yey for your first gig!

ps- As for the overshooting... don't sacrifice size for quantity, though. Better to have 200 shots as large as possible than 500 that can't be printed larger than 5x7" or so. Are you planning to shoot in RAW?

I've got a 512 mb card. And the automatic setting is RAW. But I'm not completely sure what that means. I'm embarrased to say that. I'm going to do some more reading in my manual before the big day, though. I can get about 250 shots with the largest setting, about 460+ with the medium, and 980 with the smallest. I might take the important, going-to-blow-this-up-later shots at the largest setting and the rest in medium. Not quite sure yet.

Your biggest advantage to shooting in RAW is that you can adjust the files after the fact (if you're over or under exposed, light and color balance, etc.). It's hard to describe~ especially on here. I'm certainly not an expert on it, but if you'd like to call me I can try to tell you more about it. Our photographer suggested you look at maybe checking out the book "Getting started with camera raw" by Ben Long. The only thing is that you tend to shoot slower when shooting RAW because so much information has to load.

Hope that helps a little. -AR
